HGTV stars have selected a varied palette of paint colors they say can give interiors a polished, welcoming or more distinctive appearance. The recommendations range from muted neutrals and soft whites to saturated greens, blues and black.
Drew Scott chose Behr Mocha Ice, describing the muted shade as playful without becoming overwhelming. He suggested it for bedrooms, dining rooms or spaces that need more warmth and personality. His brother, Jonathan Scott, highlighted Behr Dragonfly, a blue he considers both calming and versatile enough for bedrooms or kitchen cabinets.
Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black received recommendations from both Tarek El Moussa and Cole DeBoer. El Moussa described it as dramatic and adaptable, suitable for accent walls, exteriors or trim, while DeBoer said its bold, clean appearance helps architectural details stand out. Chelsea DeBoer selected another dark shade, Sherwin-Williams Black Fox, praising its combination of sophistication, warmth and moodiness, particularly in an office.
For a softer look, Heather Rae El Moussa recommended Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, a warm greige that combines gray and beige and works well in open-concept homes. Erin Napier chose Benjamin Moore Misty Air OC-44 as a bright, broken-in cream that provides a backdrop for colorful art and upholstery. She also named Sherwin-Williams Dover White her long-standing favorite white, saying her design team uses it by default when she has not made a quick decision.
Several designers favored rich green tones. Egypt Sherrod selected Farrow & Ball Studio Green, describing it as deep, confident and dramatic, with a different character in daylight and at night. Kristina Crestin chose Benjamin Moore Windsor Green for her own bedroom, applying it to the walls, doors, windows and trim. She characterized the deep mossy green as both cozy and sophisticated.
Joanna Gaines highlighted Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Juniper Tree, Crafted by KILZ, which was used throughout a creative workshop at the Silos, including the trim, doors and cabinetry. Gaines said the nature-inspired color felt fresh, familiar, bold and comforting. Benjamin Moore Grenada Villa was also identified as a go-to shade for the Property Brothers’ site, drew & jonathan, and was previously used by Drew Scott on a guest bedroom ceiling.
White and off-white options make up much of the remaining list. Taniya Nayak recommended Sherwin-Williams White Flour as a soft white that can support either a simple or maximalist style. Jenny Marrs chose Farrow & Ball Drop Cloth for walls, trim and cabinetry, calling it a warm, timeless neutral that works especially well in historic homes.
Galey Alix returned to Behr White, preferring its porcelain-like appearance and slight blue undertone over yellow or pink alternatives. Page Turner selected Behr Whisper White because its warm cream and soft beige undertones make it less stark than some other whites.
Together, the selections show how HGTV designers use paint to create different effects: dark colors for drama, greens and blues for depth and calm, and warm whites or greiges for a flexible foundation.
