The newly announced Asics Gel-Nimbus 29 is bringing attention to discounts on its predecessors. Early Black Friday deals include the Gel-Nimbus 28 for $129 at Amazon and REI, a $40 reduction, while the Gel-Nimbus 27 is discounted by as much as $65 on Amazon, bringing some options below $100.

The Gel-Nimbus 28 is lighter than the 27 and is described as a comfortable choice for everyday training. The Amazon discount applies across its colors and sizes. Prices for the 27 vary by size and color, so the available saving depends on the version selected.

The new Gel-Nimbus 29 makes several changes, including an engineered mesh upper intended to improve fit and more rubber coverage on the outsole. Its midsole uses FF Luxe Plus foam, which Asics says is softer than the FF Blast Plus foam in older versions. The midsole has also been reshaped to allow more compression on landing.

The writer reports having run extensively in the Gel-Nimbus 27 and 28, describing both as durable, comfortable options suited to easy and long runs. While the 28 is lighter, the writer found that difference less noticeable at easy paces and said it did not make the shoe substantially better for faster running. The 27 may therefore be the better value when its price is lower, though discounts on the 28 appear more consistent.
