Hard water can leave chalky marks on bathroom surfaces and create stubborn limescale rings around the waterline of a toilet. One homeowner had been relying on a heavy-duty descaling cleaner containing hydrochloric acid, but its cost and strong chemicals became drawbacks, especially with four toilets to maintain.
The alternative came from a tip involving denture-cleaning tablets. The recommended method is to place one or two tablets in the toilet bowl and leave them overnight. As the tablets fizz, their mild cleaning agents help loosen mineral deposits and stains without requiring manual scrubbing.
The method was tested with Steradent tablets in a toilet where a faint limescale ring had begun to form. Two tablets were added in the evening, turning the water dark blue as they dissolved. After flushing the following morning, the bowl appeared clean and bright.
The same approach was then used on the other toilets in the home, with similarly sparkling results. For ongoing maintenance, a few tablets are added to each bowl once a week and left overnight. According to the experience described, this helps dissolve mineral deposits, reduce visible rings and remove odors. Denture tablets are presented as an affordable, septic-tank-friendly and less harsh alternative to regular toilet-cleaning products.
