Honor has partnered with cinema camera maker ARRI to bring its color technology to the Magic 9 Pro Max. The phone’s camera app includes a dedicated ARRI Cinema mode, with selectable Looks and support for LUT files that can give recordings a range of cinema-inspired styles, including options designed to resemble footage from an ARRI Alexa camera.
The mode uses the phone’s 200-megapixel wide and telephoto cameras and supports a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Some LUT files come preloaded, while others can be downloaded from Honor and ARRI’s websites. The 50-megapixel ultrawide camera does not support ARRI Cinema mode.
In a demonstration at ARRI’s Los Angeles facility, footage recorded on the phone and an Alexa camera under similar lighting showed comparable color shading and detail. The cinema camera still captured the scene better, with differences visible in fine details such as shadows.
The Magic 9 Pro Max was announced Wednesday. It has a 6.8-inch display and an 8,000-mAh battery, with 100-watt wired and 80-watt wireless charging. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor and ships with Android 17 and Honor’s MagicOS 11.
The phone also has a 55-megapixel front-facing camera with a square sensor for vertical selfies when the device is held either vertically or horizontally. Honor describes this as a first for Android. The Magic 9 Pro Max supports Apple’s AirDrop through Quick Share, according to the report.
Honor has not provided pricing or a release date, and the phone will not be available in the US.
