Netflix is testing AI Discover, an interactive recommendation feature in its TV app designed to help viewers find shows and movies based on their mood and preferences. The test is currently available to a limited group of customers in the US, with a wider rollout planned in the coming weeks.
The new tab appears at the top of the TV app. At launch, viewers can select mood-based prompts such as “Scare Me” and browse suggestions, with themes including Solo Movie Night and romantic stories. Selecting a theme brings up a page of films and shows, with artwork, trailers or descriptions. The recommendations can include both Netflix originals and licensed titles.
Viewers can also use “Tune Your Recommendations” on a title to ask Netflix to suggest more like it or stop recommending it. If they choose not to see a title again, they can indicate whether they have already watched it or simply are not interested. Netflix says the feature’s AI will adapt recommendations to individual viewers.
Customers cannot choose whether to join the test, but those selected can skip the feature. Participants will see a red “Discover” icon marked as new at the top of their TV app.
Netflix previously discussed plans for AI recommendations during its first-quarter earnings call. The company has also tested AI-powered conversational search in its mobile app, allowing viewers to enter requests in natural language to find titles.
