Nothing plans to ship its first AI-native product next month, CEO Carl Pei said in an essay published on X on Wednesday. Pei described the device as a workplace tool with no new screen, adding that it could not have been made as an app.

Pei also argued that AI’s “iPhone moment” is still several years away. The comment does not mean Nothing is waiting to enter the market: the company is preparing a standalone AI product, though it has not yet revealed what it looks like or what it does.

The device is intended for work, according to Pei, who wrote that AI must demonstrate its value in productivity before becoming genuinely useful in people’s personal lives. He said Nothing aims to bring the design sensibility associated with its products to workplace tools, arguing that practicality and visual appeal can coexist.

Nothing is best known for its smartphones and audio products, which have helped it build a following as an alternative to more mainstream brands. Pei has not shared further details of the AI device, leaving its form and capabilities unclear ahead of the planned launch next month.
