Oyster Estate has opened in the heart of Greenport Village, offering a 34-room boutique hotel positioned between the area’s aging roadside motels and high-end resorts. The project combines a relaxed atmosphere with a design-led renovation of the former Greenporter Hotel.

Developed by Boston-based Blue Flag Capital, Oyster Estate is part of the company’s broader effort to renew historic hospitality properties in the region. The group has previously worked on Hotel Corduroy in Montauk and Faraway Sag Harbor before expanding to Long Island’s North Fork.

Brooklyn-based Islyn Studio led the design in collaboration with Blue Flag Capital. Instead of removing the building’s mid-century character, the studio retained its architectural foundation and interpreted Greenport’s maritime, agricultural and winemaking heritage through materials, finishes and details rather than overt nautical decoration.

Custom millwork, wooden built-ins and layered textiles add texture to the guestrooms and public areas. Locally sourced objects and restrained maritime references reinforce the connection to Greenport, while flowers collected locally were dried and pressed into tiles for the lobby, bringing elements of the surrounding landscape indoors.

The interiors combine clean architectural lines with warm, natural finishes and handcrafted features. This approach gives the spaces a sense of age and individuality while keeping the overall environment informal and comfortable.

A newly built courtyard pool and patio form the property’s main social hub. Designed for lounging and gathering, the outdoor space maintains the hotel’s intimate scale and reflects the North Fork’s quieter coastal character.

Oyster Estate’s hospitality offering is also set to expand with Fortune Favors, an Asian-inspired bar and dining venue planned to include a hi-fi listening room, atmospheric lighting and a custom sound system. The venue is intended to extend the hotel’s communal spaces into the evening.

With accommodations available year-round, Oyster Estate aims to give visitors another way to experience Greenport outside the peak summer season, combining the preserved character of the former hotel with contemporary interiors and shared gathering areas.
