British lighting brand Pooky has collaborated with passementerie company Samuel & Sons on a 13-piece collection of lampshades, pendants and flush mounts. The designs combine decorative details—including scalloped edges, handwoven braids, pleated silk, colorful linen and tassels—with a palette ranging from coral and emerald to sky blue and pink.

Pooky chief creative officer Jo Plant and Samuel & Sons president Michael Cohen said the brief was to avoid playing it safe. Plant favored scalloped trims over traditional fringe, pairing them with linen shades for a vintage-inspired look. The Taos pendants developed from an early mock-up placed above a bar, while the Margaux flush mount combines handwoven trim with a tie-dyed raffia rosette and brass detailing.

The collection uses silk for its sheen and glow when illuminated, while linen is used on the Cretian Scallop shades and Taos pendants to diffuse light more softly. Plant suggested starting with a pair of trimmed bedside shades, with a Taos pendant offering a bolder option for rooms that could use a colorful focal point.

The designers also highlighted bathrooms as a possible setting for decorative lighting. Plant said a trimmed shade can make the room feel less purely practical and more inviting.
