Fitbit Edge and Fitbit Air users who find that automatic workout detection misses their activities can try lowering the minimum duration required for a workout to be recorded. The option is available in the Google Health app and can be set to 10 minutes for many activity types.
Google wearables normally require both a sustained heart rate and a minimum workout duration of 15 minutes for automatic detection. Reducing that time threshold to 10 minutes may help shorter sessions register. The setting can be adjusted for activities such as walking, biking and “All other workouts”; for “Sports” workouts, 15 minutes is the shortest available option.
To change it, open the Google Health app, tap the profile picture, then go to Google Health settings and select Activity. Under Feature settings, open Activity Detection, choose an activity and tap Minimum duration. Set the threshold to 10 minutes, tap Save, and repeat for other activities as needed.
If the app labels a detected activity incorrectly, users can edit its workout type. The source also notes that logging more activities may help a Fitbit or Pixel Watch better recognize a user’s preferred workouts. Automatically detected activities can take up to 30 minutes to appear in the Google Health app.
