Apple has announced Gym Strength, a new feature for Fitness+ that creates personalized four-week strength-training plans. The plans are designed for use in commercial gyms or at home with limited equipment, and shift the service beyond its instructor-led group workouts toward individual training goals.

To build a plan, users answer questions about their experience with strength training, their goals, the areas they want to work, preferred workout days and available equipment. They can also choose whether to enable Apple Intelligence-powered training notes, which summarize progress and explain how a workout supports their goals.

Workouts can be completed at the user’s own pace and with their own music. Each exercise includes a demonstration from a Fitness+ trainer, with video that can be expanded to show three angles. The plan recommends sets, repetitions and weight based on a user’s prior lifting and aims. Exercises and equipment can be swapped, while an on-screen bar tracks progress through the session.

With Apple Watch, users can view exercises, repetitions, weights and what comes next from their wrist. The watch also displays heart-rate data and calories burned.

Gym Strength plans are intended to adapt over time. They estimate a suitable weight for unfamiliar exercises and use past performance to indicate when a user may be ready to lift more.
